Shooting commenced today, I tied a roll of gaffa tape to my belt and it proved to be very useful. ND filters were taped to the windows, and a track was set behind the bed, we went two hours over schedule just setting up the camera and dressing the set.
There was a scene where the actress enters the room and throws a tantrum, messing up the bed and the decorations, throwing the clothes around the room and ripping her stockings off. During the wide shot I had to go in and 'reset' the room. Fortunately the director was happy with the shot on the third take.
The two printers that we had kicking about failed to work, perhaps they were too old. So the fake magazine pages couldn't be printed out.
In the last few minutes, the three of us in the art department managed to make the fake magazine pages by combining various images and laminating them with adhesive laminating paper. This did not produce the best quality that we were aiming for, but it definitely allowed more freedom for the camera. At one point we had to cover up a 'Rymans' logo, but apart from that most corporate logos were hidden by the fantastic dreamy blur that comes with the 35mm depth of field adapter (the
movie tube).
In the photograph to the left you can see part of the track equipment, rented from
Pinewood Studios, and some lighting equipment from
Kitroom Monkey. The
track was incredibly heavy, it took two people to bring it down the stairs, and the
dolly was equally as heavy.
